Spring Break in Brentwood

Spring Break for parents can be a mixed bag of emotions! For some families it’s a welcome opportunity for a vacation, while other working parents (and even stay-at-home parents) find themselves counting down the days until school resumes. If you find yourself in the latter camp, don’t fret. Here are some tips for a happy, sane and restful break.

Explore something new
Been meaning to drop by the library, check out a different playground, or visit the town over? Spring Break is the perfect time, even if you’re still working around your normal schedule. Consider crossing even the smallest item off your bucket list an accomplishment. You don’t need to clean your house top-to-bottom, visit Disneyland or perfect an amazing DIY project – simply visiting a new restaurant you’ve been meaning to try is one less thing you’re putting off for another day.

Do something restful
Everyone needs a break once in a while! Even if your budget and schedule don’t allow for lounging about an island paradise, you can still use this Spring Break as an opportunity for relaxation. If you’re into pampering but find it hard to squeeze it in with your parenting duties, try an aromatherapy bubble bath, pick up a face mask, or give yourself a manicure. If you’re looking for a moment of zen, brew a cup of tea, try a meditation app or a leisurely walk outside. For busy parents with a to-do a mile long: give yourself a break. Even it’s sitting on the couch with Netflix, remember that recharging your batteries can increase your productivity!

Get Cooking
Make a double-batch of one of your favorite family meals and pop it in the freezer. Next time you’re frazzled, running late, out of groceries or too tired to cook, you’ll be glad to have something homemade on hand.

Get Together with Friends
If it feels like your kids are crawling up the walls, call up a friend…odds are they feel the same way. Spring Break is the perfect opportunity to meet up at a park or have a play date – a change of scenery can break up an overly long week or add something special to the time off from school.

Look at it from a Child’s Perspective
Remember how much you loved Spring Break when you were a kid? Channel that joy into making this Spring Break the best ever.
